And We're Back!!! Welcome to the second and final portion of my winter training camp, it's been a few days since I've updated but a lot has happened and I wanted to jam pack this post with amazing nuggets of training awesomeness. Strap in, here we go!
We left our adventure in Boston, MA. I had completed my second training session with "Olga" who even customized a cool down based on my individual needs. If you look in the upper corner she's telling me I burned over ONE THOUSAND calories in that hour, I also climbed over 15,000 feet and did 101 laps around the virtual track. (Later today I'll be calling the hotel and asking how much they want for the bike). After Leaving Boston, my entourage headed to Lexington where we stumbled upon a quaint bike/coffee shop (I believe the transplanted this store directly from Portland, just to make me feel at home). That evening we checked into a new hotel for more training and as it would be, a wedding to crash (I love crashing weddings, I use it as mental training to focus on playing it cool without alarming anyone, then I attack the dance floor. Just like bike racing).

After a successful wedding crash, I had one more training session in this new facility, unfortunately I do not have any documentation of this event as my camera was confiscated upon entry. However, I will disclose that it was a shameful hour on a recumbent bike in an unheated room while it was -14 degrees outside. After that, I headed down to the waterfront to see what the Atlantic looked like (turns out it looks similar to the Pacific) other than the massive ice bergs and snowfall and tall ships in the harbor. Oh and people think that I have an accent, it makes me feel like a foreigner, I refrained from telling them otherwise.
It has been a glorious 5 days in Massachusetts and as my entourage made our way back to the West Coast, while we're perpetually treated like the upper class citizens we were. Custom air plane brought directly to us from Disneyland, preferred boarding, drink service, and even a tour of the Portland cityscape at night.
To top everything off for this trip, all of the passengers on the flight home gifted us with the most amazing of colds. Lauren even got to take the day off work yesterday! Needless to say my training has come to a halt until this beastie moves out from my lungs. Luckily I've had the past two days off from work anyway which will allow me to recover a bit. On the flip side, we were able to pick up our cat from kitty summer camp and she has throughly enjoyed having us home all day. I have been looking at this years racing schedule and starting to plan what races I want to do. Once I'm better it will be back to full steam ahead. I now have a new appreciation for cold and will only complain slightly less than I usually do (however my hot water bill continues to rise). We're about a month out from the 2014 kickoff for races, and 3 months out from our wedding. The ball is starting to roll and will pickup more speed very shortly. We will be ready for it one way or another, first let's get over this cold and build up the training volume once more. Thanks for reading, be sure to check back soon for the next Podium Spot posting. We will be unveiling the racing roster, new team and bikes for 2014, very exciting stuff!
See you next week!
Cheers,
