There's nothing quite like coming back to the same blog post week, after week and always being fed new and exciting information that enriches your everyday life. Well, today may not be one of those times and I'll tell you right now, that's OK. This past week was fairly uneventful but has provoked quite a bit of thought with regards to training and this upcoming season. Here's the lineup for 2015: road racing season with an aim at being a consistent rider and getting my Cat 2 license, and in July we're planning to go to France on a belated honeymoon for a few weeks. Return from France, finish the rest of the road season, go hiking and climbing a bit more than last year. |
When you think about the time commitments involved in these activities, that whole France trip thing is going to take quite a large chunk of time and energy away from racing. This is why I'm not putting too much stock in my upgrade this year, if it happens I'd be elated but if things don't materialize, it's not the end of the world. As always, when we approach the end of the year we do tend to look back and see what's happened over the past 335 days. I for one have gained some serious perspective as to what role road racing plays in my life. With two very near misses, one of my own, and another of a dear friend, one realizes there's more to life than a medal or jersey to win at a local race (I will admit though, earning a jersey in a race is on my bucket list). It's time to get back to basics with training and racing, relax, rest, recover and enjoy the ride (literally).
Riding this week was good: 12 hrs of base training in the bag, (only Zone 1 & 2 for HR) I could definitely feel my fatigue and the increase in workload. To keep each other accountable, Lauren and I have been doing 30 min core workouts 4-5 days/week, which has been very helpful. These next two weeks will be challenging though: working 9 days straight until Christmas Eve I'm sure will have me a little burnt out going into a 4 day trip to see my family. We will see how training progresses these next two weeks. Stay tuned.
On a metric update, we've had 8,600 different views on this blog, which blows me away. Help me get to 10,000 by Jan 1st and we'll do a complete update on the site and add some new features! Wahoo!!!!!
Stay tuned next week for an update on our bicycle frames, perhaps a spec build list too, a fun holiday themed post and some roasted chestnuts!
Until next week, same bike time, same bike channel.
